FAQ

  • Q. Why did you create MailOverload?
    A. My company already had an anti-spam solution. It did a great job at blocking the spam emails. You know the ones I’m talking about: advertisements for Viagra, promises I could earn a diploma in just 30 days without studying, and others.
The problem was that I was still receiving 10’s if not 100’s of emails a day from senders I didn’t know and didn’t want to get messages from. They were not true “spam,” but rather invitations to conferences and events tangentially but not really relevant to me, blog emails I had long ago stopped caring about, and catalogs I no longer cared about. They were the electronic equivalent of junk mail. Sure, I could block these senders by adding them to my junk senders list in Outlook.

But lately I’ve found myself checking email more often on my Blackberry than on my PC. I had no easy way to block these senders while away from my computer. I would awake to dozens of emails from senders I didn’t want to receive email from, only to delete them on my Blackberry and have them appear again the next day or week.

I had another problem too – since my primary computer is a laptop and not always on, email would often come to my Blackberry before ever showing up in Outlook. That meant that even senders I had blocked in Outlook were still getting through to my Blackberry.

I wanted an easy way to add senders to my junk senders list directly on my Blackberry. And I wanted my junk senders list from Outlook to work on my Blackberry in case my Blackberry got the message first.

    That’s why I created MailOverload.

I created the Blackberry version first, and MailOverload can work independently on my Blackberry and my PC (in Outlook). But it works best when installed on both. That allows it to synchronize the junk senders list between desktop and Blackberry. But even just installed on my Blackberry, it has reduced my junk email messages by a significant number. I don’t know about you but I am already overloaded on email without junk messages creeping in there too.

So please enjoy MailOverload – and if you like the program, register to support further development. Your comments, feedback, and suggestions for future releases are welcome. Enjoy!

    Q. Who should use MailOverload?
    A. MailOverload is useful for anyone who is tired of receiving junk email. Many people have anti-spam solutions, but still receive junk email in the form of catalogs, promotional mailings, event notices, coupons, or blog updates. MailOverload allows you to block senders directly on your Blackberry. You no longer have to wait to get back to your PC to block unwanted senders. MailOverload also synchronizes the block list from Outlook to your Blackberry so that when messages are received on your Blackberry first, they are immediately filtered.
