Overview | Blackberry | Outlook | Synchronization

Overview
With MailOverload you install a simple application on your Blackberry and on your Windows PC. MailOverload for Blackberry can also work alone.

MailOverload allows you to block senders or simply suspend them. Blocked senders are permanently blocked until you remove them from the blocked senders list. Suspended senders are suspended for a period of time, just like suspending delivery of a newspaper while you are on vacation.

When MailOverload is installed on your PC and Blackberry, it synchronizes the blocked senders list in Outlook with MailOverload.com and with your Blackberry. If you block a sender on your Blackberry, that is reflected in your account on MailOverload.com and in the Outlook blocked senders list.

You can also choose to install MailOverload only on your Blackberry. In that case, you can block or suspend senders on your Blackberry, but your blocked senders list in Outlook will not be updated.

The illustration on right side shows how MailOverload works.

Using MailOverload
Blackberry
Once the application is installed, simply go to your Messages, and push the Menu key when a message from a sender you want to block is selected. Choose Block Sender or Suspend Delivery from the menu. You can also push the menu key when a message is open to block or suspend the sender of the currently open message. To configure MailOverload settings, go to Applications and select the MailOverload icon. You can push the menu key to configure settings, such as your synchronization account information.
In both Outlook and on the Blackberry, the following settings can be configured:
  • Delete message after suspend – When checked, will delete the current message after you suspend the sender of that message
  • Delete message after block – When checked, will delete the current message after you suspend the sender of that message
  • Default suspend time – If you Suspend a sender, MailOverload will, by default, set the expiration time for the suspension for today + the default suspend time. For example, if the date is October 1 and the default suspend time is one month, the default expiration time for a suspended sender will be November 1

Outlook
Once the application is installed, the MailOverload for Outlook toolbar and menu item will be installed in Outlook. MailOverload for Outlook uses the built-in Outlook blocked senders list for blocked senders and its own list for suspended senders. Both lists are synchronized with your account on MailOverload.com.

To configure the application, click on the Manage button in the MailOverload for Outlook toolbar. Alternatively, go to the Tools menu and select MailOverload Settings.

To block a sender, add a sender to the Outlook block senders list as you normally would. To suspend a sender, right click on a message and choose Suspend, or click Suspend from the MailOverload toolbar while a message is open or selected in the inbox

MailOverload.com Synchronization
To synchronize your blocked/suspended senders list with your account on MailOverload.com, you must first create an account at MailOverload.com. You do not have to create an account at MailOverload.com, but synchronization between Outlook and Blackberry requires an account to work. Also, if you do not create an account, your blocked senders list will not be backed up from your Blackberry and may be lost if your Blackberry is rebooted.

Once you have created an account on MailOverload.com, simply enter the username and password you used to create your account into MailOverload for Outlook and/or MailOverload for Blackberry. You may do this in the settings area for both applications.

By default, synchronization happens daily. You may change the default synchronization time to hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly.

If you have modified your blocked senders list in one of the clients but also done so on the server or one of the other clients, a blocked sender conflict may occur. By default, MailOverload.com creates a blocked senders list that includes all blocked senders from the clients and the server. You may change this so that the client list is always kept or the server list is always kept. However, we recommend that you leave this at the default setting.
